Finding your Space

Louise Kerby– “Being May month, a time to celebrate Mother’s Month! It got me thinking about my relationship with my mother , Gloria Erasmus and what I value the most about her.

“My Mum was a teacher and for most of her life she taught little people. Her entire thrust has always been to teach independence to children and this she most certainly did for me! It is one of the things I value most about my Mum. Our relationship is very generous when it comes to personal space and independence. It is certainly not a needy relationship. I value this enormously. Not only has she given me space and room to grow, she has celebrated when I have achieved my goals and found my space in the world. It is only through her great love for me that this is possible.

“She has always known that children will fly from the nest and create a life for themselves. My mother has always believed that if you don’t allow children space to do things for themselves, then it shows you have no faith in their ability. This story of empowering and creating independent human beings has always been her thing! So I am enormously grateful that she gave me this gift of freedom and independence. I value her love for me in allowing me to fly”.
